Meet Kylee, a 32-year-old Waikato girl and user of Spex Seating.

When she was 22, Kylee was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic connective-tissue disorder causing frequent dislocations, broken bones, stretching of internal organs, and problems with the elasticity of joints, skin, and ligaments. Kylee now uses a power wheelchair to get around.

A lot of people look at me and think that living in a wheelchair is a really bad thing, or a terrible thing… I don’t see it like that. A wheelchair doesn’t limit me… my wheelchair empowers and enables me to live my life like anybody else.

Medifab is making a difference in Kylee’s life by providing needed support through Spex specialised wheelchair seating solutions. Kylee uses the Spex Pelvalign Back Support, providing her with greater comfort and support where needed through a customised support surface that shapes to her body shape. Contact us for more information on the Pelvalign.

Kylee spends a lot of her time raising awareness about her incurable condition, as well as advocating for greater inclusion and accessibility in society, and changing the way disability is perceived and accepted.

I guess the most difficult thing about living in a wheelchair is the preconceptions of it and the access of it. The barriers in place are those that society have put in place by not providing full access to all environments… but I don’t see my wheelchair as a bad thing, and it enables me to live the life that I want to live.
