Meet Jackson
Jackson is the youngest in a family of nine, and from the moment you hear his mum Carla speak about him, it’s clear just how deeply loved he is. He’s a happy, active little boy who lights up around people. He loves music, dancing, bubbles, and being part of the action, especially when there are other children around.
He keeps his family busy, keeps them smiling, and is, in every sense, the apple of their eye.
Facing Something New
When Jackson’s family first saw the Ella Standing Frame, it felt overwhelming. It was big, unfamiliar, and full of straps and supports. Like many families navigating supportive equipment for the first time, there was a lot to take in.
“The standing frame was quite confrontational for us when we first saw it. It’s big, you know, it’s got a lot going on, it’s got a lot of straps, it’s got a lot of bits and pieces.”
At first, it wasn’t easy. It took time for Jackson, and for those around him, to adjust to something so different. But with time, patience, and support, what first felt daunting slowly became something filled with possibility.
A New Way to Experience the World
Once Jackson became comfortable in the Ella, everything began to shift.
Standing upright opened up new opportunities for him to engage with the world around him. With the support of the stander carefully adjusted to suit his needs, including tailored positioning through the foot, knee, pelvic and trunk supports, Jackson could be comfortable, secure, and more free to interact. For example, with limited flexion in his feet, being able to adjust the angle of the footplates has made a real difference to how supported and at ease he feels while standing.
“The Ella is easy. You pop him in it, he stands up and he’s independent… It’s changed everything.”
The addition of the tray has also become one of his favourite parts of standing time. Jackson loves placing his toys on it, only to push them off and watch them drop, again and again, turning a simple feature into a moment of joy and play!
Jackson currently uses the Ella in a supine position due to his limited head control. One of the strengths of the stander is that it can be set up in either supine or prone, allowing it to be configured to suit different postural and support needs and helping to ensure Jackson has the setup that works best for him.
Instead of always being held, sitting, or lying down, he now has the chance to stand tall and be part of the moment in a new way.

Growing Independence
One of the most meaningful changes has been the independence the Ella has given Jackson.
With the right support and positioning, standing has become something he can do in a way that feels safe, supported, and empowering. The Ella’s ability to be finely adjusted for Jackson’s body means he can spend time upright comfortably, which has helped open up more opportunities for interaction and play.
That independence matters not only for Jackson, but for the whole family. It has helped create more opportunities to be together, to head out as a family, and to include him in the same everyday experiences as his siblings.
For Carla, that impact reaches far beyond the equipment itself. It has changed what family life can look like and opened the door to moments that may once have felt out of reach.
Confidence for Everyday Life
What once felt complicated gradually became part of everyday life. As Carla learned what worked best for Jackson, the Ella became easier to use and easier to trust.
Features like the simple adjustment of supports and the ability to change positioning as needed have helped build that confidence over time. Knowing Jackson is well supported, and that the equipment can be adapted as he grows, has given the family reassurance as they continue to navigate his needs and celebrate his progress.
More Than Equipment
For Jackson’s family, the right equipment has been life changing. Not only because of the physical support it provides, but because of what it makes possible.
“Having the equipment is absolutely life-changing. We can’t be without it now.”
It has helped Jackson take part in the world around him in new ways. It has helped his family feel more able to include him in everyday life. And it has brought a sense of possibility, connection, and freedom that means so much to them all.
Jackson’s story is a reminder that supportive equipment is never just about the equipment. At its heart, it’s about people, participation, and giving families the support they need to enjoy life together.
