Everyone is unique, so sometimes it takes a little extra beyond what’s available ‘off the shelf’, to ensure you leave with exactly what you need from your wheelchair or seating solution.
Whether it’s assembling brackets and bolts to create the perfect support, sculpting shapes from foam, or dreaming up one-of-a-kind accessories… creating solutions is a core value here at Medifab.
Personalised seating, without the wait…
- User-matched support: Seating tailored to each user’s unique needs.
- Rapid turnaround: On-the-spot service at our clinic facilities with no need to send away for manufacturing.
- Built on trusted tech: As well as the option to create ‘traditional’ user-matched foam cushions, we can also construct a cushion from layered materials or even start with proven Spex cushions and enhance them with Artisan precision.
- Huge material selection: Choose from a wide range of premium fabrics, including SpexTex and Outlast®, used in many Medifab products.
- Complete setup: We carry a vast range of hardware from different brands to build solid support surfaces ready for user-matched padding.
- Convenient locations nationwide: Visit us across New Zealand at our accessible, fully equipped clinics, or call on our extensive team of expert consultants for a joint visit with the user.
By choosing to have your seating appointment at one of our clinic spaces across New Zealand, our Artisan experts can craft and refine your solution right there and then.

What options are available for user-matched cushions?
-
- Modify an ‘off-the-shelf’ cushion
- Construct a cushion from layered materials
- Construct a cushion from a block of foam with a carved seat well.
What’s The Order Process for a user-matched cushion?
- Consultation – Conducted face to face or by phone to discuss options and determine which cushion will be quoted.
- Quotation & Purchase Order – The therapist processes the quotation and obtains a purchase order.
- Initial Measure-Up – Measurements are taken at the first appointment. For user-matched fabricated cushions, a paper template is also completed, often alongside a MAT assessment, to record the design.
- Foam-Stage Trial (optional) – If required, the cushion can be supplied in the foam stage only for review at a second appointment.
- Final Upholstery – Once confirmed, the cushion is upholstered and delivered.
Artisan can supply both solid support extensions and padding for arm and lower leg supports.
For those one-of-a-kind needs, we can create user-matched solutions to make life easier or simply add a bit of personality to your chair:
- Lateral trunk support hardware and pads
- Privacy flaps and modesty covers
- A loud horn for your power wheelchair
- Spoke guards with your choice of hydro-dipped graphics
- Special trays and carriers for high-dependency equipment such as oxygen bottles, suction machines, or ventilators
- Fishing-rod holders and dog-leash attachments
- make helpful tweaks to existing products (e.g. Velcro placement, alternative pillow stuffing)
- create fully-scripted solutions like supine leg wedges, which provide personalised lower limb alignment
