Firstly, I would like to thank the Medifab team for making this bed possible for our daughter Gina. It was desperately needed and is very much appreciated by Gina, her family and her support workers. It has made a huge difference to our lives and goes a long way to help my family to appropriately function in an extremely challenging environment.
The Medifab Safe Surround bed is the perfect bed for Gina, and I would go as far to say that it is the only bed for Gina. Here are just some of the reasons why.
Gina is 12 years old and is significantly physically and intellectually delayed due to a very rare undiagnosed genetic disorder. Gina is unable to walk, talk, toilet or feed herself and has some very challenging behaviours.
Up until now she has been sleeping in an infant cot and was in desperate need of a safer, larger and more age-appropriate bed which would also allow easier manual handling for her family and carers. The Medifab Safe Surround bed is a sturdy, beautifully made and thoughtfully designed bed which is able to solve all of these problems. 
The Medifab Safe Surround’s high-low function allows easy transfers for Gina into and out of bed, which was previously a back-breaking experience for her family and carers.
She can weight bear but cannot walk independently, so we can now assist her to walk to and get her into bed without having to lift her. The bed also allows us to get tend to her by simply raising the bed up to a height which is comfortable for family and carers to work at.
Gina often likes to pull herself up into an unbalanced standing position whilst in her bed and has recently had a G-tube inserted and is fed overnight with a pump. If her bed did not have high enough sides she would easily fall out of bed, and with her pump tube attached at night, this would add an additional layer of risk to an already unpleasant situation. The high sides of the Medifab Safe Surround bed gives us great peace of mind knowing she is very safe and comfortable at night, and gives our whole family the best chance of a good night’s sleep!
Made with wooden slats rather than solid sides, the Medifab Safe Surround bed doesn’t make Gina feel ‘blocked’ in, the airflow around her is excellent and her family and carers are able to see her clearly. An unexpected advantage of the Medifab Safe Surround bed was the very similar look it has to Gina’s old cot, just larger and with higher sides.
For a child who struggles with changes to her environment, this made Gina’s transition to her new bed very easy and not at all distressing.
These are just some of the reasons we have found the Medifab Safe Surround bed to be perfect for our daughter Gina. We would have no hesitation recommending this bed to other special needs families or settings. We have another younger daughter who has the same condition as Gina, and will certainly be contacting you to purchase another Medifab Safe Surround bed when the time comes for her to transition into a bed.
